This American Red Cross certification will prepare instructor candidates to teach Lifeguarding, Shallow Water Lifeguarding, Waterfront Skills, Waterpark Skills, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers, Administering Emergency Oxygen and Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission courses and/or modules. Pre-requisites
- Be at least 17 years old on or before the last day of the instructor course (proof of age required) and possess a current American Red Cross or equivalent organization certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED.
- Successfully complete the online Orientation to the Red Cross and Lifeguarding course.
- Successfully complete the Precourse Session.
- Demonstrate all lifeguarding skills being met to the standard.
Certification: Valid for 2 years
To become certified as a Lifeguarding instructor, instructor candidates must:
■ Successfully complete the Online Session.
■ Successfully complete the Precourse Session.
■ Attend and actively participate in all course sessions.
■ Successfully complete class activities, including the four practice-teaching assignments.
■ Score a minimum of 80% on the instructor course final written exam.

CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor Training
CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Healthcare Providers Instructor Training- See Available Courses
This American Red Cross certification will prepare instructor candidates to teach CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers course and will allow successful candidates to bridge to BLS CPR/AED. Instructor candidates will also be responsible for Bloodborne Pathogens and Adminstering Emergency Oxygen courses.

This American Heart Association certification will prepare instructor candidates to teach Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR/AED course. Instructor candidates will also be responsible for Heartsaver course and Bloodborne Pathogens information.

Pre-requisites

- Possess a current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR/AED certification
- Align with an AHA Training Center (TC) accepting new instructors
- Directions to align with our TC will be sent upon registration.
- If you plan to align with another TC, please note on the registration form.
- Complete the Instructor Candidate Application
- Obtain all course (instructor, student & video) materials (additional fees apply)
- Complete the Instructors Essentials online course (additional fees apply)
- Be able to proficiently demonstrate all BLS & Heartsaver skills without assistance
Certification: Valid for 2 years
- Successfully complete the prerequisite requirements.
- Attend and actively participate in all course sessions.
- Successfully complete class activities
- Score at least 84 percent (21 correct answers out of 25 questions) on the instructor written multiple choice exam.
- Student teach at least 1 course within a 6 month period after the in person instructor course
- You may be required to teach additional courses in order to be satisfactory.
- This step can be done with another TC, if aligned elsewhere, upon request.
