This class is for those who want to get certified in the necessary skills to teach Parent/Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn to Swim, Adult Swimming, and a variety of water safety presentations. All participants will be required to complete the online Orientation to the Swimming and Water Safety Program, which includes the online Orientation to the American Red Cross. Please keep in mind that taking this class does not ensure you a swim instructor job after completion.
Note: This is a blended learning opportunity. Online coursework will be assigned and is required.
Pre-requisites
- Must complete at a Learn to Swim Level 4 (Goggles allowed):
25 yard front crawl
25 yard back crawl
25 yard breaststroke
25 yard sidestroke
25 yard elementary backstroke
15 yard butterfly
- Must tread water for 2 minutes using only legs.
- Must back float for 1 minute
Age
Must be 16 years old by the end of the course; proof of age will be required on the first day.
Certification
Must attend and actively participate in all class sessions (no exceptions), successfully complete all lesson plans and practice teaching assignments, pass written exams with at least an 80%. Water Safety Instructor certification is valid for 2 years.

$300 includes electronic Instructor’s, participants’ manuals, and certification.
