Two things are taught in water safety courses:
1. Always swim when a lifegurd is on duty.
2. Never swim beyond where you can stand without a life jacket if you are an unsure swimmer.
This woman swimming at Tufts University learned these lessons the hard way. Luckily, an experienced lifegurd was there and watching intently to see if her skills were needed.
